Success Stories
Over the years, we have been able to help many furry friends find their perfect loving forever home. Here are just a few success stories from their proud owners.
Owner's Name: Michael & Carol Liveston & Family
Pet's Name: Starla
Earlier this year, we were looking for a companion for Capone, our pit bull baby. We went straight to the Shelby Co Humane Society without hesitation.
Mike Lescowitch was so helpful. He brought out a pretty little black dog. It just didn't "click". Too small for "Pony" to play with. He brought out Starla, a big girl - lab/chow mix. He said she "wasn't too pretty in the face" but it was love at first sight!!! Beautiful brown eyes - windows to her soul!! I was in love with her immediately and from her size, she could handle rough play.
We took her home for a "trial" but Pony fell in love hard in 1 minute flat!! They got acquainted and played and kissed and slept side by side. She plays rope every day & runs circles around our living room - come get me! He literally smiles and obliges her. She has gained 10 lbs. (not needed!) and gets regular treats after potty & chewies every night. She's glossy black & absolutely gorgeous!!
We've since added Gertie - a chow - & Starla made her instantly welcome. Starla washes our kittens faces & knows when to get gentle. She gets many kisses a day & is a wonderful addition to our family. If you ever need a pet for your family, Mike at Shelby Co. Humane Society is the man to see. He's a master at the perfect match! Starla is my most favorite (don't tell Pony & Gertie please!) and I love her with all my heart. She (they) are almost human. I promise to love her and keep her for her whole life! (yes, all of them!)
Thank you Mike for another success story & happy beginning.

Pet's Name: Champ
Wanted to share with you a little story about a truly amazing dog. The picture above is one my daughter took last Summer of our beloved dog Champ.
We had just moved to the home farm & the kids really wanted a puppy. I said when school is out next year we will get a puppy. Well, in May of 2002 I found that puppy. I adopted him from the Sidney Humane Society. They said he was 6 weeks old, but were unsure exactly. When I got him home all he wanted to do was be held & suck on your fingers & oh so little. My husband said he wouldn't amount to anything. Hmm, Champ proved him wrong. This dog ended up being the best hunting dog ever & never had a days training. Living on a farm you get plenty of critters & he never backed down from any of them. Must have known about skunks though because in almost 10 years, he was never sprayed. He never did his business in the yard, always in the field. And, I can't tell you what an awesome watch dog he was. I say was, because we had to bury him today. We are devastated by his passing, but cherish every day we got with him. It was very sudden, fine on Saturday, showed signs of not being well on Sunday & passing on today, Monday.
Thank you to the Sidney Humane Society for giving us such a wonderful animal. We will miss him dearly & am not sure how we will ever replace him. By the way, I think he would have won the calendar if we would have put his picture in, but no way would he let you give him a bath!
